The Pakistani Telecommunications Authority (PTA) confirmed on Friday (9) that it has blocked access to the video sharing app TikTok, owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. The block came after the entity received several complaints that the app was displaying "immoral and indecent content."The effect is not the same as sought by the United States, which tried to effectively ban the app from its territory in August, in another chapter of the trade war with China. In the case of Pakistan, the app is still present in the country and those who already have it installed can access parts of it. However, new downloads are prevented.TikTok is temporarily blocked in Pakistan on accusations of disseminating questionable content in the eyes of local authorities. "In view of the number of complaints from different parts of society against immoral and indecent content within the TikTok video sharing app, the PTA issued instructions to block the application," said the Pakistani authority in a statement. The PTA, however, emphasized that it is willing to rescind the blocking decision if TikTok commits to implementing better content moderation while active in Pakistan. Such action would obviously have to be approved by the local government.### Clash with the United StatesOn the western side of the market, TikTok continues its fight to prevent the US government from banning the app from operating in the United States. In August, an executive order aimed to remove the app from the country, conditioning its stay to ByteDance selling the American part of its business to a local company. This negotiation resulted in Oracle being chosen to manage the app in that country, postponing its ban, but the agreement did not come without limitations: the Chinese company refused to hand over its algorithm to the company founded by Larry Ellison, causing friction with the US government once again. The most recent development in this "saga" came two weeks ago, when a judge in Washington blocked the total ban of the app in the United States, which was supposed to take place on September 27.Now, the negotiation between Oracle and ByteDance will have to undergo government evaluation and be sanctioned by Trump. If this does not happen, the ban of TikTok in the United States is expected to take place by November 12.Source: [Reuters](https://www.reuters.com/article/pakistan-tiktok-idUSKBN26U1AT?taid=5f806f56482cc900015aaea4&utm_campaign=trueAnthem:+Trending+Content&utm_medium=trueAnthem&utm_source=twitter)
